The Art of the Mantel

If you have a fireplace in your home with a mantel, it may be one of those spaces in your new digs that you are most excited to decorate, but you just aren’t sure where to start. The mantle is a small space that can be easily overlooked but is a true jackpot for home decor. Just one simple space can be turned into the centerpiece of your home, so don’t overlook this small but important feature! Keep reading to see what we’re inspired by!

If you and your hubby love bringing the outdoors in, consider turning to mother nature for inspiration. Potted plants, succulents, eucalyptus leaves…all the green things, are a perfect addition to any mantel. Depending on how much greenery you add, you can use small sections of greenery as accent pieces to achieve a minimalist look, or deck that mantel out with potted cacti for a boho chic look!

Looking for a way to brighten up your living room and create the illusion of a bigger space? Look no further, mirrors are your perfect match. Take any shape, circle or square, and you can immediately create the look and feel of a much bigger space. Mirrors are a perfect statement piece, they’re decorative and functional. You can’t go wrong with a piece like that!

Seasonal Decor

With Autumn in full swing and Halloween just around the corner, throw in some seasonal decorations to spice up your space! You can adorn your mantel with freshly picked pumpkins, white and orange. Orange pumpkins will warm up your space with the staple color of fall and white pumpkins are perfect for a clean and minimalist aesthetic. Spray paint your pumpkins gold for a more luxurious feel! The sky is the limit with fall decorations and they transition perfectly into Thanksgiving!

Brighten up your room with colorful canvases or tone it down with muted tones of water color paintings to give your space a little more personality. Whether it’s with one big canvas or a few different sizes, any combination will work. I’m really inspired by nature and my favorite canvas paintings are ones with green and blue hues that depict picturesque mountain scenes or forests with crisp foliage. If you have any sort of artistic bone in your body and you want to save money, don’t buy a 60 dollar canvas, just DIY it and create your own! Another popular style of canvas is not necessarily a painting of a scene but rather a saying or phrase that invokes feelings of home and warmth, perfect for a little canvas living right above the fireplace!

When putting together your perfect decorative mantel display, consider all of the components:

  • The Anchor

    • Anchor your display with canvases, paintings, or mirrors

  • The Weight

    • Add some weight to your display with large candles and votive holders or large blue vases filled with eucalyptus leaves

  • The Fillers

    • Top off your display with must have filers such as picture frames with family photos, small candles, mini pumpkins for the fall season, or anything small that you can tuck into the corners of your picture perfect mantel
